RISE ABOVE est un projet expérimental, entre architecture et mobilier urbain, dans lequel une même structure permet à la fois de se regrouper ou de s’isoler.
Cette forme offre en partie basse un espace de discussion et d’échange et en partie haute un lieu de réflexion et d'observation.
Projet vainqueur du concours de design de la fondation Malongo, il s'est concrétisé sous la forme d'échanges dans les pays producteurs de café, par la réalisation collective d'un objet. Situé dans des lieux choisis par les communautés locales, Rise Above offre des vues remarquables sur le paysage environnant. Deux structures ont été construites de façon permanente : la première au Laos, édifiée avec les planteurs de café du plateau des Bolovens. La seconde à Cuba, réalisée avec les planteurs locaux et les étudiants de l'école de charpente de l'office de conservation du patrimoine, sur le site d'une plantation de café datant du XIXeme siècle dans les hauteurs de Santiago de Cuba. Réelle expérience humaine mais aussi expérience de design, ces objets identiques, sont laissés à la libre appropriation de chaque communauté.
Rise Above is an experimental project, between architecture and urban furniture, in which a same structure allows to gather or to isolate yourself.
This form offers in the lower part a space for talking and exchanging with others and in the higher part a place for reflection and observation.
Winning proposal for the Malongo Fondation design competition, it has materialized itself in the form of cultural and technical exchanges with coffee producing countries, through the collective making of an object. Located in sites that have been chosen by the local communities, Rise Above project is offering a remarkable point of view on the surrounding landscapes. Two structures have been installed permanently: the first one in Laos, built with the local coffee growers of the Bolovens plateau. The second one in Cuba, realized with the local growers and the students of the carpentry school of the office of heritage preservation, on the site of a coffee plantation established in the XIXth century, in the mountains over Santiago de cuba. A real human experience but also a design experience, the identical objects are left to the free appropriation of each community.
