Le projet Mazzocchio fait se rencontrer l’espace et la lumière pour créer un lieu
d’échange.
Retenus pour participer au festival d’architecture Hellowood, à Csórompuszta, Hongrie,
Martial Marquet & Nicolas Polaert, ont dessiné pour l’occasion une structure qui est à la fois un point de rencontre et un signal : le Mazzocchio, dont le nom et la forme sont inspirés des dessins géométriques de Paolo Uccello, peintre de la Renaissance italienne. Le concept de cette structure est d’étirer un point de lumière de façon à créer un espace circulaire. Pour cela, M. Marquet et N. Polaert ont construit avec leur équipe un large anneau en bois.
Cette structure en treillis offre une grande variété d’ambiances en fonction de la position que l’on adopte : certain se tiendront sous la lumière puissante de l’anneau pour être vu, d’autres s’assiéront prés du centre dans une lumière tamisée – deux exemples parmi de nombreuses attitudes et mouvements que le Mazzochio provoque spontanément chez son visiteur. La lumière projetée sur le sol matérialise une zone défi nie, sans limite physique : une zone d’échange où chacun peut entrer librement à la rencontre de l’autre.
L’équipe était composée d’étudiants en art et en architecture, qui ont développé avec les architectes un ensemble de quatre gabarits, prenant la forme de stations de travail. Grâce au temps et à l’application passés à la conception de ces outils, les 24 modules composant le cercle ont été produits en une seule journée, pour un périmètre total de 48 mètres.
Après quelques semaines à Csórompuszta le Mazzocchio a été démonté puis ré-assemblé sur une l’île au milieu du Danube à Budapest, pour un des plus grands événements musicaux d’Europe : le Sziget Festival.
The Mazzocchio combines space and light to create social interactions.
During summer 2015, Martial Marquet and Nicolas Polaert took part in Hellowood architecture festival in Csórompuszta, Hungary. They designed a structure that intends to be both a gathering point and a signal, the Mazzocchio, whose name and shape are inspired by the Italian Renaissance painter Paolo Uccello’s geometrical drawings.
The concept behind the structure is to stretch a punctual light to create a circular space.
In order to do this, Marquet and Polaert built with their team a large wooden ring. This truss structure offers a gradiation of atmospheres according to one’s position: for instance, one would stand under the ring, in full light, to read; one would prefer to sit near the center, in shallow light, to chat with a friend – among various attitudes and movements that the Mazzochio spontaneously provokes. The light cast on the ground materializes a defi nite area, without physical boundaries : a social zone, where one can come freely to exchange with others. The team was composed by art and architecture students who developed with Marquet and Polaert a set of four jigs shaped like working stations. Thanks to the time and focus they put on those, they built the 24 components in one single day for a total perimeter of
48 meters.
After few weeks in csorompusta, the installation has been re-assembled on Sziget Island
in Budapest (HU) for one of the biggest music event in Eurpoe the Sziget Festival.
