Le projet “a table is a parliament” transforme l’archtéype de la table de pique-nique en un espace central de rassemblement et de débat dédié à la communauté.
Vous pouvez vous asseoir à la table au niveau inférieur de la structure, partager un repas avec les autres ou accueillir du public. Cette structure favorise l’inclusivité, la diversité dans sa capacité à réunir des usages quotidien ou plus exceptionnel comme ceux du parlement. Ce projet propose une relecture de l’espace de l’amphithéâtre archétypale. Il devient une tribune d’échange et d’expression pour divers médias tels que le son, la musique et la danse. Il apparaît autant comme un lieu de divertissement, que comme un espace politique et suggère l’idée que s’exprimer et confronter ses opinions avec les autres devrait être aussi naturel que manger ou boire. En effet, la politique, la démocratie, le divertissement et la fête façonnent et structure simultanément la vie en communauté.
Une grande partie du projet à était concentré dans le processus de construction. Le but des designers est de donner un outils à la communauté pour répondre par eux mêmes à leurs besoins d’aménagements de la table jusqu’au parlement. Pour cela Marquet, Polaert et Nemec ont conçu une longue ligne de production paramétrique. Ces gabarits peuvent être ajustés et organisés en fonction d’un grand nombre de typologies utiles pour construire le projet. Grâce à ces outils ils ont réussi à construire une grande et complexe installation, qui inclus de nombreuse variables dans un temps pourtant très court. Seulement 5 jours ont été nécéssaires pour assembler la structure avec des outils basique (visseuses et scie-circulaire) et de simple matériaux bruts. (tasseaux et planche de sapin)
A table is a parliament project rebuilds the archetypal picnic table into the community’s central gathering and debating space.
You can sit down by the table at the lower level of the arena structure, share food with others and welcome visitors. It fosters inclusivity, diversity and demonstrates the ritual of welcoming . Here everyone is welcome at the table and welcome to join in the debate. The project aims to rethink the archetypal amphitheatre space. It becomes a tribune for exchange and expression in various media such as sound, music, dance and both the still and moving image. It is as much a place for entertainment as a political space. The project suggest to the local community that the expression of oneself should be as natural as eating or drinking. Politics, democracy, entertainment and partying simultaneously shape the spaces of communal living.
A large part of the project has been focused into the building process, the design team aims to give to the community the tools to answer their spatial needs, from outdoor table and benches to a parliament. In order to do that, Marquet, Polaert and Nemec, designed a large parametric assembly production line. These workbenches can be adjusted and organised according to the various typologies that have been used to build « a table is parliament » installation. Thanks to those tools they succeed to build a very large highly complex structure with a large amount of variables in a really short time. Only 5 days were needed to assemble the project with basics tools (circular saw and power drill) and very simple raw materials. (pine wood cleats and boards)
